I HATE Fleas. I mean, really, truly hate the little bugs.

Let me tell you a bit about a recent run in I had with the most severe infestation of fleas I have ever seen in my house.

I own two cats. I keep them indoors. Occasionally, one of my cats likes to make a run for an open door to get outside and do some late night adventuring and hunting. He slipped out an open door and crept through grass and plants for around 15 minutes before I was able to get him back inside my house. He brought a flea back into the house with him. Maybe several. I didn’t notice at the time.

I didn’t think too much about this at the time. I had seen fleas around in previous years, but a good shot of Frontline usually seemed to wipe the bugs out in short order. Not this time.

A few weeks after my cat had gone outside, I noticed some dark red patches around where he had been sleeping. He seemed unusually lethargic. I noticed a few fleas on my ankles occasionally during this time, too. I went to where he was sleeping and started digging through his long white hair. He was covered in fleas! I was mortified. Hundreds of them were crawling over him, biting him, causing him to scratch and bleed and exist in a state of absolute misery. The dark red patches were blood from his many bites.

From that day to today, I have learned a great deal about how to treat for fleas in a home. I know what works. I know what does NOT work. I created this website as both a research hub and resource for others so that you will never have to endure what my pets and I have been through. Weeks of itchy ankles….constantly watching for the little bugs crawling on my legs…paranoid walking through parts of my house as the mere sight of the bugs would bring me anxiety.
