Avoid any fogger which contains “permethrin” as an ingrediant. Although permethrin is harmless to people and dogs, it is deadly poison to cats.

fleas are nasty once you get them since they have a 4 stage life cycle and can control when they hatch. so unless you live in alaska or some where else just as cold you will have to treat things on an as needed basis. the only stage that can’t be killed by any products is the pupua stage. and this is where they can lye dormant until optimal times.

as long as you get a product with an IGR in it this works great. if you get a fogger, I would put one in just about every room, or where the animals are the most and less where they aren’t. good luck and hope this helps

We have 4 dogs and 3 cats. When we had fleas we did the following: Gave all animals the pill to kill the fleas on them immediately, sprayed the house, and used advantage on the animals for a long time cure. Also we put down insecticide on our yard to get rid of fleas in the yard. You would not need to do this if your cat does not go outside.

CAUTION!! – I do not know the effects of the spray or handling of the pills due to your pregnancy. BE SURE to check the labels.

you need to spray the outside of your house and probably use something on the carpets (with pyrethrins as an ingredient). but you need to keep the kitten and nursing mother away from these products and the sprayed areas for several days to a week or so. read labels.

your adult cats probably need bathed wtih a good flea soap, but i wouldn’t recommend it for the kitten until it’s over 6 weeks old (talk to the vet) or on the nursing mother right now.

First make sure they are not in your home. If so do your home then your yard. The premixed bottles are about $13 to $16 I get the concentrated be we do it every 2-3 months. The concentrated is about $23.

What it would cost you in baking soda and salt it would be more cost effective to get the spray.

Vacuum all the carpets and rugs in your house, basically everything the cats are used to sitting or playing on. If you have a wet vac use that as well. Fleas and their eggs drown in water, so that is the most effected method of getting rid of them from carpets. Next get a good upholstery spray and use it on all your furniture (close doors, make sure no one enters the room for at least an hour after you spray).
Do this regularly for three – four days and you will get rid of all fleas in your house.

Flea eggs will stay dormant in your carpets and furniture for months until a warm blooded creature or human get near it, it will then hatch and begin the annoying cycle all over. So you must get rid of it all at once.

You can usually see the fleas either on the underside of the cat/kitten or near their face/eyes (esp. if white fur).

You can try trimming the nails first, just be careful not to trim them into the dark part of the nail where the blood is.

We used this on both our kittens when we got them and it worked like a charm. Only side effect is that now clean floors make me think of kittens! It’s also a good idea to get your cat used to taking baths while he is young. We started ours off this way and did it once every few months whether they need it or not, just to keep them tolerating it. Cuts down on allergens.

I have tried the cheaper brands and they didn’t work as well.

It is relatively cheap. Or you can go to your vets and get it. My vet will sometime break the backage and give me the amoung I need for my 2 cats instead of making me buy the entire package. Maybe yours will do that to. The good thing about it is that it will kill fleas that it comes into contact with. We had a minor flea problem awhile back and it got rid of the fleas wherever the cats were (sofa, chair etc.)

If your problem is that bad you might try some over the counter products to spray on your furniture and carpets or have a professional exterminator come out.

I feel for you. It’s not a fun time especially if you have a baby coming.

Feline Flea Proofing
Add to the food for each adult cat:
1/2 level teaspoon brewer’s yeast
1/4 level teaspoon garlic powder

Flea Destroyer
Set up a plate of sudsy water with a light hovering over it. The fleas are attracted to this and drown themselves.

Flea Repellent (for cats)
1/8 teaspoon tamari soy sauce
1 crushed whole clove
1/8 teaspoon water
1 fresh garlic clove
Marinate the garlic in the liquid for about 10 minutes and then remove it.
Add 1/16 teaspoon soy liquid to each 1/2 cup cat food. Use this repellent immediately.

Herbs may be cut or whole; construct a pillow for your pet to sleep on and then stuff it with the pennyroyal, thyme, wormwood. This makes a nice gift for those favorite dogs in your life. These herbs help to repel fleas naturally and without harsh chemicals.

Flea Repellent Sleep Pillows
For cats
2 parts sage or rosemary
1 part catnip
1 part chamomile
For dogs
2 parts pennyroyal
1 part thyme
1 part wormwood
Herbs may be used cut or whole. Mix enough to stuff a 2-foot square pillow for a cat or a 3-foot square (or larger) pillow for a dog. Sew the pillowcase out of a tough, washable fabric such as denim.

Herbal Flea Powder
Use herbs in powdered form only.
2 ounces pennyroyal (use sage or rosemary for cats)
1 ounce rosemary
1 ounce wormwood
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Mix and store in a covered container. Use as often as any flea powder and rub into skin.
DO NOT LET POWDER GET INTO PET’S EYES.

Herbal Flea Powder
1 part eucalyptus powder
1 part pennyroyal powder (use sage or rosemary for cats)
1 part fennel powder
1 part yellow dock powder
Combine all ingredients in a shaker top jar and shake to mix.
Apply to your pet’s fur by brushing backward with your hand or comb and sprinkling the powder into the roots of the hairs. Concentrate on the neck, back, and belly. Use just enough to add a little odor to the hairs.
For severe flea infestations, treat daily; otherwise, use two or three times a week.

The safest way to treat a kitten under 6 weeks of age for fleas is to bathe him using warm water and Dawn dishwashing detergent and then to manually pick off remaining fleas. Dawn dishwashing soap is very effective and it kills fleas quickly. Many breeders bathe their cats in Dawn.

Fill your sink or tub with warm water. (Test the temperature as if you were giving a baby a bath). Using the kitchen sink is often easiest as you don’t have to bend down and you are more in control. Immerse the kitten up to his neck and insure that he is saturated. Wet his face and head with a face washer. Then lift him out and place him on a towel. Gently massage in the Dawn detergent. Massage the soap all over his body and around his neck, ears, face, head and under his chin, being very careful not to get soap in his eyes. The fleas are not silly and will head for the high dry ground of the head area.

Then put him back in the water for a rinse. If he is not fighting and struggling too much try to keep his body submerged (with his head above the water of course) for a few minutes. If he is clawing you to pieces get the job over and done with as quickly as possible. Having two people perform the operation is often easier. One to hold the kitten and one to massage and wash the the kitten. When finished wrap him up in a dry towel and dry him off. Try to do this in a warm atmosphere and don’t let him get cold.

Also take the flea collars off the cats – all they do is repel fleas from the neck area, they don’t kill anything. They will probably be making the cats more itchy.

If you used Frontline, sometimes the cats can itch more to begin with because the fleas go a bit crazy before they die.

Don’t be tempted by cheap pet store flea treatments, please – they are a huge waste of money, this a constant battle I fight. Only ever use Frontline, or a treatment from a vets.

At this time of year, you will probably need to spray your house too to get rid of the fleas.

Then you can spot check her and kill as many as possible with your fingers and a comb.

That should keep you from getting immediately infested. Some fleas will survive on her and some will be in your house if you allow her in. I could handle that. You’ll have to vacuum like a maniac and throw the bags outside away from the house. Then you might have to spray, bomb, or both and it could be a real pain and expense, but it could be worth it to you.

I would either confine her outside or confine her to one pretty good sealed room while you have her untreated. Then you can get medicine from the vet or a (vet recommended) flea bath, or put her in the shelter.

Make sure she has water and food and litter then you should be able to leave her in a temperate place for a day or two. Your other choice is to leave her on her own (I wouldn’t), find someplace NOW to take her (maybe impossible), or take her in and risk a flea fight all summer (I might, I’m a sucker for cuteness though).

The good ol time laundry aid. You used to put it into the wash with your detergent and it conditioned the water. It is quite harmless to anything living except bugs.

You can put some in your hand and fluff it into the fur. Even better you put some in the bedding.

What it does is cause the membrane that hold the fleas exoskeleton together to break down Kills them. It tends to keep the fleas away too as they seem to sense it is not good for them and new ones do not move in.

Wash the cats and get ALL flea meds off the coat. Then flea comb them and after they are clean, use Advantage, Frontline, etc. Don’t use any cheap stuff or Hartz or flea collars.
