This product was recommended to me by an exterminator. He warned me it was hard to find, but luckily Amazon found it for me. After trying bombs, other sprays and gallons of insecticide, Raid in the purple can killed all the fleas -- which were driving us out of the house -- in one main spray and a light spray the second day. I would recommend it to anyone with a flea problem.

In thirty years we have gotten flea infestations twice. We have always had a couple of dogs and a couple of cats and they have always worn flea collars year round. But when you get infested, it’s the pits. Our first time was 20 years ago, we used the foggers, and had to leave the house for hours while the foggers went off – and then clean every surface when we came back and we had to do it like twice in a couple of weeks! So when we got infested again this year, I was really upset… I remembered how hard it was to get rid of them, and how uncomfortable everyone was while doing it. I found this Raid Flea Killer Carpet Spray at Target and it worked really well. (I’m sorry but unless you are going to overnight your spray from Amazon, the sooner you get after the fleas the better you are.)

The smell isn’t bad, and within an hour of spraying I went from 10 to 20 fleas on my legs while standing in the infested area of the basement (which is how we discovered we had them, the animals were pretty clean) to none. NONE. Now I don’t think we’re done yet, fleas are really tough, and it was big room (20′ x 30′) and I may have missed a few spots. I will probably spray again in a few weeks.

If you have a flea infestation, get this stuff. Worked for us great. Now to summarize from the reviews I saw around the web: Although a lot of reviews said it’s OK to spray on dogs,… I wouldn’t. Most everyone agrees the smell is bearable. I didn’t see ANY reviews that said it didn’t work. Yes it’s a Chemical… some people objected to that. My day started in a panic because I found we had an infestation in the basement carpet. My day ended with relief that we seem to have knocked it back to near zero. And if it truly kills the eggs like Raid says, then I may have knocked it out entirely. I hate fleas… I now love this Raid Flea Killer Carpet Spray. It worked. Period.

For the last 3 months, I have invested about $150 in CRAP to rid my house of fleas! Everything prior to this spray FAILED: Flea powder for carpet, Salt on the Carpet, setting off flea bombs, vinegar in the dogs drinking water, brewers yeast tablets w/ garlic, Frontline for the dogs, the bowl of water at night trick with the light over it, spraying the lawn with crap from Home Depot.... etc!!!!

THIS SPRAY SAVED ME! I was actually the one getting eaten alive, so this stuff was a blessing. I hope it lasts for more than a month. I plan on buying another can and spraying in about 6-8 weeks just for extra measure.

Please note that I live in a 1,500 sq foot house and I JUST had enough to do the house. This can will NOT treat anything bigger. If you have a flea problem, get this spray. It has now been 2 days and I have only seen 2 fleas.... normally I would have seen about 20-30 .

I used this spray to coat my stairway (on the carpet and the walls to prevent the fleas from coming upstairs into my space) My unique situation is that my roommate (who lives on the floor below me) has a dog with a flea problem and no desire to do anything about it. Apparently he can't feel the fleas but I can (and so can the dog as I see him scratching all the time). This has been frustrating to no end because I am unable to eradicate the problem at the source and am left trying to figure out a way to keep the bugs from getting upstairs. It doesn't help that the dog is all over me when I walk in the door. I have no doubt that I carry them upstairs. He also has a favorite spot at the base of the stairs. The fleas probably just hop right on up the stairs as the upstairs are carpeted and the downstairs has a stone floor. I have tried many things and have found my favorite products. As of today my flea issues are close to gone (The dog is still scratching though, so it will be interesting to see how bad things get downstairs.)

So, in terms of the ultracide, what did I think? I think it's one of the most powerful sprays on the market. Compared to sprays I bought from the local Walmart, it is MUCH more powerful. It is also MUCH more toxic smelling. The downside of using all these chemicals to deal with flea problems is that they make you feel as sick as the fleas.When I sprayed this stuff on my stairwell it was like dropping a nuclear bomb on the fleas. I found them scattered on my kitchen floor where they had jumped to escape the spray but all of them were dead. It's not much of a surprise that they were. I had to use a thick towel folded over many times and put over my mouth to keep out the toxic smell. I also stayed outside for about 45 minutes with the fans blowing and windows open to get the chemical smell out. This is very potent stuff. In terms of how long it will keep the fleas from wanting to return, I am not really sure. A week after that I found a product I am much more in love with called Fleago (which I credit with being the biggest factor for getting rid of my problem). Fleago is a powder that is made from Boric Acid. It dries out the fleas and their eggs and kills them. It takes a few weeks to work, but it is so much more natural and healthier for you and effective. My friend from work told me about it. It took her about a week before she noticed a difference, but now after several weeks she is mostly flea free. I have found the same to be true for myself. After a few weeks I can now relax in my space upstairs. This is amazing stuff. I wish I had known about it before I spent all that money.(Note on boric acid: If you do a wikipedia search, you will find that it says that if you eat or inhale large quanities it can be poisonous. But in small quantities it is not considered more toxic than table salt. In other words, don't snort it or eat it.)

If you have a really bad flea problem I would recommend using the ultracide for your couches as it will WIPE OUT anything that is on them. Then use the Fleago on your carpets. The Fleago is not for hard floors as it makes them too slippery. Of course you will need to get them off your dog. I heard washing with dish soap and water works well.There are also tablets you can give your dog that kills all the fleas on your dog instantly. Can't remember the name right now, but I am sure with a quick internet search you could find it.

Save your money and buy a night light!, August 23, 2007

With three cats and a dog plus two kids who can't seem to keep the pets outside, our house has been totally infested with fleas this summer. I had made a simple flea trap using a desk lamp pointing down at a low cake pan filled with soapy water which was catching dozens of fleas a day. When I saw these traps advertised I thought they looked like just the ticket and expected they would be a big improvement over my decidedly low tech job. So I ordered four right away.

Now I'm less then impressed and plan on returning these today.

Yes, the light on the trap attracts fleas - you can see dozen of the little buggers milling around the each trap. But after using four of the Spring Star traps for two days, I have only caught a grand total of just one flea. That is one pretty expensive flea. And yes, I did remember to take the protective paper off the sticky paper and pointed the sticky side up. It just seems like the fleas can't find their way into to trap or if they do they simply aren't caught on the sticky paper. If these traps are a vast improvement over the "old style" traps, I hate to think how bad the old ones were. I think Neil Young must have bought a few of these which inspired him to write "Piece of Crap."

What I have ended up having to do is spray the area around the traps and kill the fleas that have congregated around the traps. This is good as it limits the area I need to spray. However, I could have done this just as easily and much cheaper using a two dollar night light. I'd say save your money and just get the night light first.

Kills the Scale on Your Sago Palms!, May 16, 2010

We had scale so bad on our sago palms and thought they would die for sure a couple of years ago. After reading online that many people recommended the Hartz Flea & Tick Spray (for "HOME") to use on the ground and even on the fronds of our sagos to kill the scale, we've done it for years and it has been very successful. Only thing is that you have to keep it up year after year, but when you consider the cost of a new, mature sago (could be thousands of dollars for ones the sizes of ours) then this spray is affordable compared to the cost of replacement, plus the scale will always return if it is in your area because it travels with the wind from plant to plant.

If you plan to use this on your sagos, be sure to get the one labeled for "Home." The one labeled for "Dogs" is too strong and could kill your plant.

So far on only the 2nd day of use, the flea trap has caught about 20 fleas. I have 2 set up.. 1 in my living rm and one in my dining rm. which is where my cat likes to go the most. I tried using a fogger to kill the fleas and when that didn't work I started searching online for a better and longer lasting solution. I am very pleased with my purchase and will be buying a couple more for other rooms in my house. On another note.. if your pet ever gets fleas or you suspect that they have them, take care of the problem right away! I didn't take care of the problem right away and now have spent over $150 dollars on pills, shampoos, sprays, foggers, flea collars, (which btw do not work very well) and now the traps. Needless to say I will not make the same mistake again!

i have two outside pens for my dog to use. i spray this product on her rugs and anywhere else in both pens to keep the ants and fleas away. i have not seen fleas around so far but the ants are always trying to be a pest. it keeps the ants away. the product is wrapped tightly in strong plastic to prevent any problems during shipping. my shipment arrived fine. i am real happy with this product and it is safe for me to use around my dog's pens.

Fleas can be an annoying problem to have in your house. They’re tiny, annoying little insects. It’s a difficult problem to tackle, and you need to do so from several angles.

This flea trap is a big help in targeting certain areas of your home, particularly where your pets frequent. We set this trap up by the couch and there were a lot of fleas in it after one night. I was really impressed. You can move it to different rooms if you need to, and it has a nice long cord so you’re not stuck near the wall. Definately a nice additions to your flea arsenal.

However, don’t rely on it as your only means of tackling the flea problem. I found several home rememdies to use if you’re not comfortable using chemicals and other artificial means. Mix 3 parts of borax and 1 part of salt and sprinkle it on your carpet and furniture. Wait half an hour and vaccum it off. The borax will kill any living fleas and the salt will dry out the eggs. Repeat for a week or two.

As for your animals, giving them a bath with a flea shampoo, or even regular dish soap. Just make sure you don’t get it their eyes or anything. Combing also makes a big difference. Dunk the comb in a bowl of soapy water and swish it around to kill any fleas on the comb. If you find a few stuck in the teeth, you can use tweezers to pick them out and either dunk them in the water or burn them with a candle lighter. Be careful! Safety first! Watch for nearby flammables!

For yourself, I used a spray on insect repellent. Look for special tick and flea repellents in a store or online. Usually in the form of lotions, too. Avon’s Skin so Soft is helpful.

Using the trap and other methods, you can diffently make your flea problem much more manageable, or even non-existant.

This little sticky pads are fantastic!

I had purchased 6 of the flea traps and placed them all over my home. These pads allow no escape for trapped fleas. I hate to admit it, but I gloated over the many many many bodies stuck to the pad when I went to change it out for a new one.

I guess we had a dud dose of Advantage that month, and fleas were everywhere–so we pulled out all the stops and tried everything… another dose of Advantage for the dog and the inside cats, Frontline in the food I leave out for the feral cats who come by, diatom dust on the rugs. We took a chance on these flea traps because we didn’t want to bomb the house with pesticides, powders or sprays.

FLEA TRAPS ROCK!

Any flea that escaped the animals was attracted to the warm light on the trap—and fell onto the sticky paper, from which there is no release. Problem solved.

These traps and their sticky paper really let you grasp the scope of a flea infestation. Flea populations increase exponentially if allowed, so buy these traps, change the paper when they are full, (they last too–one sheet per got me thru an entire attack). I leave the traps plugged in always now, and I keep a spare pack of the capture pads too — just in case of another attack. I am sooo ready.

I had a flea infestation in my house and on my dog. I used Frontline, bombed the house, and have been vacuuming daily. I could see a few dead fleas that fell off my dog after the first 24 hours of Frontline and was waiting for more to die off but that wasn’t the case. I followed the instructions exactly, but after the first 3.5 weeks the problem seemed to get worse. I was using Capstar in addition to kill off the adults, but it seemed they kept appearing! I read that Frontline has become less effective in the past few years and that seems to be true. I read some reviews on Advantix II and decided to try that for the second month. I know it takes three months to break a flea cycle but this seems to have worked after the first week! I gave him Advantix II and a Capstar the first day and I haven’t seen a flea since. This stuff is AMAZING and my frustrating is slowly dwindling away. DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON FRONTLINE!!

I have a dog that is allergic to fleas. She will scratch herself up looking for relief from just a few. I use Advantix II and by the next day she is no longer scratching. I have used Frontline on her in the past and it never seemed to get rid of all the fleas.

As advertized, this medicine lasts 30 days, so it is important you apply EVERY 30 days. I have noticed that if I apply a couple of days late she starts scratching again.

However, I would recommend buying from Drs. Foster and Smith instead of Amazon. They're about $10 cheaper and offer free standard shipping on all flea and tick products.

At first I didn't see but one flea on the trap so I decided I may have chose a poor location. I moved it closer to wear my dogs sleep at night and it appears to be working. The trap has gotten pretty full in a matter of days and not only caught fleas but mosquito's and other tiny flying creatures I was unaware flew in.

It's not the only solution to having a flew problem but it's been a big help to me. You will still need to use a flea comb and comb your pets every day or other day out doors, and you'll still need to treat your yard due to other animals coming around. I put "Dawn" dish soap in a bowl with water and dip the comb in between combing my pets. The ones I don't get with the comb the flea trap seems to get, so I think I have this whole flea situation under control now. I would recommend this product at helping to get rid of fleas.

Directions:
Do not bathe your cat prior (48-72 hours... the longer the better) and after applying the product. The way advantage oil spreads on your kitty's body is via the oils that naturally occur on your pet's skin surface. Washing your pet will dry their skin and will make the product ineffective or at least much less potent. Secondly when applying, make sure to pull apart the tiny hairs on the base of the skull, as you'd be wasting the product applying it onto the fur.
I noticed immediate improvement in my cat's scratching within 1 day of application, and after 2 days the black "flea feces" were nowhere to be found in his fur.
I am very happy with this product, delivery and its price.

I remember back in the old days before these flea control products existed that I would line up my 3 or 4 cats to bathe them. It would take a few days for the scratches on my arms and back to heal, and by then, the fleas had already returned. Then came Advantage, and it took 2 or 3 months for the flea cycle to be broken, but I have never seen a flea in my house again.

My cats are totally indoor cats and I understand that outdoor cats may need a more frequent application than once a month.

This is a great product. I got a puppy last summer and she was covered in fleas. I didn't want to use harmful chemicals on her and so sprayed her bedding, my furniture and etc with this stuff. It kills fleas instantly on contact. I did also spray my puppy - not as much as the directions said- and she maybe licked it off as she vomited. But I am not 100% certain it was from the spray. So after that, I just sprayed it on the flea comb and combed her- that was enough to finish off the last of the fleas. The scent (clove) is not bad, and it dissipates quickly. Plus it is just clove and peppermint oil- so I do not mind spraying it on my furniture and bedding. We are flea free!! This product is awesome. It works!!! and is safe on puppies and kittens 8 weeks and older.
