Get a flea collar. Get shampoo that has flea killer in it.
Bathe your dog in a mixture of warm water and ‘ DAWN Lemon Scented Liquid Soap ‘. ‘ DAWN Lemon Scented Liquid soap ‘ is a great flea killer and repellent.

The best treatment to get rid of fleas and ticks at the same time is a tropical flea and tick treatment, such as; Frontline. But since you said you had issues with that, there are other kinds. You apply this on your pets neck, separating the hair, every month. The treatment will go into the dog’s skin follicles and release for one month. You dog will literally be a walking flea and tick bomb.
If you don’t want to go through buying a treatment every month, you can always bathe them in dawn dish detergent. This is what pet owners usually use with puppies, for your dog must be at least 3 months to use the tropical treatment.
For your house, vacuum A LOT!!! You need to vacuum your house every week. I also suggest getting a flea and tick spray. Spray is better then some of the powders. The powders are messy and can be harmful to small children and even adults. I got a spray and it worked really well, it works on all fabrics and rugs, I even put it in my car for when I travel with the dog.
But again, the best is the tropical treatment. I have not seen one flea nor tick on my dog since I started, and it works instantly. When I picked up my 3 month old lab/bulldog from the farm, she had never been bathed. She had hundreds of fleas and ticks. Once the tropical treatment was put on her, they all died instantly. But I did have to take about 3 hours to pull all dead ticks off of her and flick off the dead fleas.
