OK, I need some serious help. My cat has fleas, and try as we might, we just can’t seem to rid him of them. Frontline Plus didn’t work, a natural flea spray and combing did some good, as well as a bath and another round of flea combing….he’s still got fleas on him! Our dog is on Revolution, and HE keeps on itching. I tried the soapy water in a pan with a light over it….no fleas the next morning. I know I need to treat ALL areas of my carpet, but I don’t want to use an insecticide. I will if I have to (and I’m reaching the end of my rope here), but I’d like something a little safer considering I have the animals and a 7 year old son. I’ve heard people recommending boric acid, but I have no idea where to find it. Does the Flea Busters powder work? I’m inclined to try it because we think the fleas may be coming from another apartment in the building, but I’m leary about wasting more money on yet another useless product. These fleas don’t seem to be bothered by anything!!! Help!!!!!
I love being told the Frontline works when I was finding live fleas on my cat a WEEK after application. Yeah, sure it works….this is why I’ve seen multiple complaints online about it NOT working. I’m not wasting my money on it again. I understand it’s merely a preventive medication, but it’s supposed to kill the fleas on my cat…and it didn’t. Seems kind of useless to me. And yes, I applied it right.
I thought about trying Advantage, but like I said (if someone would read my question in its entirey, they’d know this), I don’t want to treat my animals for the fleas without treating my home. I KNOW they’ll keep coming back if I don’t get them out of my carpet….but they’ll keep getting into my apartment if I don’t get them off my ANIMALS. And NOTHING IS WORKING ON EITHER.
It’s called “Fleex” you can get it at the pet shops anywhere!
OK I have had the same problem. 1st you need to by a shampoo or flea dip that says on the label “kills fleas on contact” you have to kill them 1st then use a repellent ie frontline or whatever. If you don’t kill them before using a repellent they jump off the cat into your carpet then back on the cat when it dries.
Bathe him with Zodiac shampoo, and bomb the house with a Hot Shot spray can in each room.
If your pet has fleas, your home is infested. People just don’t get it. They come back and dis the product (like Frontline Plus or Revolution), yet it’s the home owners fault, not the product. They are PREVENTATIVES and need to be used monthly to keep fleas from infesting your pet and home.
You MUST treat your home with a spray that contains an Insect Growth Regulator(IGR) like Nylar. Flea bombs do not work. Consult your vet for proper application techniques and for the right product. Fleas are NOT bothered by OTC treatments. You need the good stuff, the stuff you can only find from the vet. Are you going to pay more? Hell ya. Why? Because it works. Why go to the store and buy something, just to have it not work and then try another store bought product and that not work? Get it from your vet. Highly infested homes may need a second treatment.

I sympathize..had this problem once, myself.
1. Be careful about bathing too soon after using frontline. It may take several days for all of the fleas to die or drop off.
2. I know that you have a child, so this has to be done carefully.
Buy some flea powder-any cheap brand will do. Get a dust mask from Home Depot or another home improvement store.
Make sure you have new bags for your vacuum cleaner. With the dust mask on,
Sprinkle the flea powder on your rugs and furniture. Make sure you get underneath couch cushions, into the crevices, etc. Let it sit several hours or overnight. Obviously, you need to keep everyone-including the pets-out of this room.
Finally, with the dust mask on, vaccuum the S*** out of rugs and furniture. Immediately take the bag out of your vac, bag in a plastic bag, and take it to the trash can or dumpster outside.
For the next two weeks, change the bag in your vac and get it out of the house every time you vacuum.
Hope this helps.
Go to the vet and ask for Capstar. It kills all the fleas that are currently on your cat. Then use a topical flea medicine like Frontline, though I prefer Revolution. Your dog may just have hot spots, I have never noticed fleas on any of my animals after they have used Revolution. Definitely get Capstar first though.
you want to get Program cause even if there are fleas in the house, they will stay off your animals. It is a tablet and you should be able to get it online or from the vet. We used Advantage to kill them on the cat and ferret we have. If you see them jump around in the house, you will have to get a professional exterminator to rid the house of them but program and Advantage definitely work
There is a pill to give pets that kills fleas when they bite the pet. Also ADVANTAGE works- try that instead of Frontline. Use a flea powder for your carpets and vacuum regularly to get eggs. Pyrethrins are natural insecticides you may want to look for flea dip products that include them. Boric acid can be bought at a hardware store, its also a roach killer. Fleas can be hard to kill you may have to resort to an exterminator.
We had 6 cats, and it was A NIGHTMARE!!! You really have no choice but to treat the home. You have to take the cat to the vet for a flea bath and flea dip. While he is there, you have to fog your house (every room), then after it’s is done fogging, wash everything and vacuum VERY good. There are millions of eggs everywhere, and it’s probably the only way I think. It sounds like a pain, but the longer you wait, the more thousands of eggs are hatching every day. Or call an exterminator.
