I use a dog flea repellant and bathe, but the infestation is out of control in Florida this year, will someone come up with an answer so I don’t have to “pick” Murray clean daily!
We already use Revolution, but for some reason the fleas “hitch” a ride into the house and love to hide in Murray’s clean coat and sheets then at night they bite me, really bad this season, just not cool enough to rid them from the yard. I can’t take hime for our normal walks without dusting him first and he is as tired of it as I. Nicky W

What customers say about How to rid fleas from a Jack Russell??

  1. Sprinkle a bit of garlic powder in his food. Fleas hate the smell it’ll give him. My dog never gets fleas due to this.

  2. Well is he a long hair, short hair, or medium hair Jack Russell?
With mine I buzzed him so that they were all out of his medium length hair… HE LOVED IT! And it got the fleas away!

  3. Frontline and Advantage didn’t work?

  4. Frontline Plus

  5. go to the gardnening center an get a bag os Sevins Dust rub it all over him and repeat daily. That takes care of him but know you have them in the house too so vac vac vac……….also sprinkle Sevins all over the yard and keep your dog away from other dogs

  6. Go to the vet and get an Ovi collar or a similar flea protection. This really works . However your house is infested so you have to get a flea spray for the house. DOn’t use products from stores. They are not as affective as the ones you get from the vet.

  7. Dawn dish washing soap is great to use on a dog that is covered in fleas. You want to soap him up heavily with the soap and leave it on him for 15 minutes or longer. The soap is mild enough for the dog so it wont hurt him, but soap smothers the fleas. You have to leave it on long enough to smother them though, because fleas can go a while without oxygen. You will have to pick the remaning fleas off him in order to remove any that may have survived the dawning..hehe.

Put 1 moth ball in your vaccum cleaner bag and make sure you vaccum several times a day. You can also sprinkle salt on your carpet to kill the larva and fleas, when we had a heavy infestation I would sprinkle the salt on in the evening at bedtime and then vacum in the morning. You will have to change out the bag daily in order to rid the fleas from your house. You will need to spray your yard to kill any fleas and repeat again in 2 weeks to kill the newly hatched fleas. I would repeat that step for at least 2 months since flea eggs can stay dormant for long periods of time.

You will need to rebath your dog weekly until infestation is gone completely.

There is an awesome product out now called Revolution that not only controls fleas and ticks on your dog but also prevents heart worm. It is cheaper than doing heartgaurd and the flea treatment and works just as good if not better. Ask your Vet about it.

    Hope this helps.

  8. Purchase some Frontline or Advantix. It’s a monthly treatment you put on thier back. Make sure not to bathe him 3-4 days before or after you apply it.

Take your dog and other animals out for the day and BOMB your house. There are some really good flea/tick bombs you can purchase.

You might kill the fleas on your dog but they are living and breeding in your carpet, in your bed, on your couch, in your curtains. You have to bomb the place to kill the next generation.

    Good Luck

  9. I had the same problem with my Jack Russell. I think he sat/slept on an area abundant with fleas. He had really small baby fleas all over!!! His whole stomach was red with bites.

The best option is to take him to the Vet. Or buy Frontline Flea Spray. Killed them off immediately. But get ready to use gloves and to try to hold your Jack when you spray him. My Jack hated it so I had someone hold/carry him while I sprayed Frontline. Honest, it really works! Frontline will keep him flea-free for a month.

Revolution is not a good anti-flea medication. It is anti-heartworm and anti-flea-in-one. But does not prevent/remove fleas AT ALL. (especially if there is a flea infestation) so I went back to Frontline and for heartworm, i use Heartguard for my Jack. Revolution may be an easy option (all-in-one thing) but why waste your money on sometyhing that doesn’t work at all?

  10. Fleas are a major pest. There are various species of fleascat fleas, dog fleas, rat fleas and rabbit fleas.
You can get rid of them by the safest and cheapest methods like boric acid.
