Cat, eight years old, never had fleas before, and always use Frontline at irregular intervals with him. Now, both me and my mother are VERY itchy and have some unknown bites- could this be fleas, and how could I tell if he has them? I also work in a pet shop, so it could be bites from other fleas/mites, but I haven’t been there since Thursday, so…
I don’t THINK he does has them…he hasn’t been scratching anymore and I haven’t seen any on him or in the house, but I have been bitten for sure, and my mum may have been.
We use Frontline less then regularly, but I may put it on him just to be sure.
Yes, I have bites, but it may be from work and I’ve also been bitten by things before that haven’t been fleas, which is kind of weird.
Pick through the fur and if they’re is fleas you should be able to feel them of see them. Mites are a different story though and a skin test should take place at your vet’s office.
Biggest clues are you actually see a flea on your cat or flea dirt. If there are tiny brown spots on your cats fur, get a few of them and put them on a wet paper towel. If they turn red than it is flea poo.
You should be able to see them, but they will also have little brown bits that look like mud – flea poop.
If YOU have bites, it should be easy to tell if the cat has fleas.
Just look through your cats fur if you see alot of black junk that’s flee dirt witch means your cat has fleas and simple frontline will take of it but if your cat already uses frontline monthly then i doubt she would have fleas so you would have had to pick it up at the pet store
go purchase a fine toothed comb and brush your cat. you’ll be able to tell pretty quickly if you see fleas or not. you’ll feel rough, gritty patches of flea bites if it is fleas and if its particularly bad, you’ll see hair loss.
other than that, shell out the money for a single frontline treatment. most fleas don’t do well on people so if you treat the cat, and possibly clean your carpet as well, that should probably clear it up.
Hi has anyone been to a hotel? They may be bed bugs SHOCK HORROR I sure hope not just a thought..
My home remedy for fleas
I did it for about 10 years when I had indoor outdoor kitties, now only indoor, so no need any more but it was a life savor!!
How I got rid of fleas and bugs from my home
You will need to get a simple bug/fly zapper; a friend or neighbor may already have one you can use. You can buy one that will cover a 3000 sq ft area of your house at an OSH or Home Dept type stores for as little as 20.00-30.00 dollars. Place the zapper on the FLOOR in a corner behind an end table so kids and pets won’t bother it. Remember, it is a piece of electrical equipment. You have to use caution in where you put it. Fleas will go to the light especially at night. When they hop in to the bug zapper you can actually hear little, zits, zits when the fleas are getting fried! Keep the carpet vacuumed daily until your flea problem is under control, this will help tremendously in getting the fleas eggs out of your home and carpet faster and break the flea egg cycle!! I am not responsible for misuse of the this item, I am telling you what I did with my zapper and it worked so well I wanted to share my success. Use full caution in placing your bug zapper to the safest place. It will work for months, even years; it will continue to kill bugs in your home as long as the light is on. The bulb can be replaced once it burns out. The light bulb can be purchased the same stores mentioned above. Here is a photo of the one I have always used. http://www.samstores.com/_images/products/FLOWTRON_BK15.jpg
