My cat is 10 months old and was brought to me by my moms friend. My cat’s mom was an indoor/outdoor cat and so my cat was brought to me with fleas. I have been having this problem for a while and I wish that it could end, other than the baking soda any more advice would help. My cat is long haired too so that makes it even harder to spot them. HELP. (I have tried Advantage and it did not work)

What customers say about I heard that if you rub baking soda on your cat, your cat won’t have fleas or ticks anymore is that true??

  1. No that doesn’t work. Advantage sucks. I’d try Frontline, i’ve never had much luck with any flea controls. I just bathe my dogs when they have fleas, then do a clean sweep on the house.

  2. Well I’ve never heard of that…All I know is its supposed to freshen litter boxes. Your vet should have multiple types of flea medication and if you just don’t want to go there then at least ask your vet about the baking soda thing to make sure its not harmful ;-) /

  3. baking soda will cause your cat too salivate and dribble and cause mucosal irritation
it is important if you have a animal with fleas that you treat the environment also so you need a household spray and you need to treat the cat and the house on the same day
i would guess this is your problem i am a vet nurse and we use advantage and i have never known it not to work
treat the house AND the cat and you should solve the problem

  4. I’ve heard of people using a baking soda/salt mixture on their carpets to prevent fleas, but not actually on a cat.

  5. Bathe the kitten in Dawn dishwashing soap. Let it sit for five to ten minutes then rinse, rinse, rinse. Follow up with a treatment of Frontline Plus for cats. Treat all the areas in the house where the cat will, and does go, with Raid Plus for fleas. Repeat the use of Raid every seven days for a month.

Be sure and follow up with Frontline every thirty days as well.

Make sure all areas are dry before releasing the cat in the house.

The Dawn will kill the fleas and leave your cat smelling nice and clean without harming it. Be sure to NOT get soap in its eyes.

    Good luck
