I had an extra flea-collar that I had bought for my puppy/dog. But I put it on my cat. it’s BRAND NEW, the box had 2 and 1 went to the dog the other is on my cat. but ever since I put the flea collar on my cat she seems to have very low energy. There’s no differnce in my dog though. Could it be the flea collar is just for dogs and too strong for my cat?

Wooww, nice product! I want to share this product!

What customers say about Is the dog flea collar too strong for cats??

  1. I don’t recommend flea collars. Try using a flea shampoo that is safe for dogs and cats. Yes, remove the collar form the cat-they are made for different size animals.

  2. go see your vet.

their is probably a reason for it being for dogs

  3. Most likely not. Does she usually wear a collar in general? It could be she just doesnt like it. Now if she seemed to be scratching at it alot I would say it was actually irritating her… However, low energy may have something else causing it, check her food and water and make sure nothing has contaminated it. Such as bugs in the dry food and algae or some hold hold cleaner in her water. However, Im assuming the reason you gave her a collar is that shes an indoor outdoor cat. Most likely she ate something she shouldn’t have outside. Watch her carefully over the next few days and if she gets worse take her to the vet and tell them everything you can think of!! Good Luck!! <3
Just in case you’d rather be safe then sorry, check this out.

  4. I wouldn’t use it for cat. Cat’s can get sick using dog’s flea & tick meds.

With our dog the only thing that worked was Front Line. They make it for cats as well. You can use the flea collars in your vaccum bag to kill fleas and their eggs. They are not good for use on dogs or cats.

I would take it off your cat immediately. You should wash the chemicals off your cat. Their systems are different than dogs, there should be a warning on the flea collar box.

  5. how do you put a collar on a flea?

  6. uh yes. take it off of kitty. those things are horrible and don’t work. i would take it off the dog too. get flea medicine from your vet. like Advantage.

  7. NEVER use dog flea products on cats. They are too strong and can kill the cat.Take the collar off and bathe the cat thoroughly, give it some milk to help absorb any toxins and call your vet in the morning.Flea collars are toxic and they don’t work to begin with.Get some Frontline from your vet.Take the collar off NOW!

  8. I would check the label NOW and if you see “pyrethrin” anywhere please remove the collar IMMEDIATELY. Pyrethrins are commonly used in dog flea control products but are extremely, EXTREMELY deadly for cats.

Not to mention that flea collars hardly ever work. Save your money and buy a real flea control product such as Frontline, Advantage, etc….anything but a flea collar.

    Good luck!

  9. Yes, any flea collar is too strong. Especially if you’re using one for an animal much bigger than the one you’re putting it on. That’s very dangerous, so take it off immediately. It’s like putting a poison necklace around your pet. I don’t recommend them at all.

Read this. It’s a group that I’m in on MySpace called *Cat Lovers*. They list everything you need to know about fleas and how to treat them. I don’t think you need to join to be able to view the forum.

  10. DOG FLEE collars are not meant for cats at all and really are not good for no cats go buy FRONT LINE PLUS FOR YOUR CAT FOR CATS ONLY AND DOGS FOR DOGS ONLY which kills all flees and eggs and ticks the dogs front -line is sold in packages according to dogs weight only use the one for the weight of your dog.. …..cats are sold only one size for all cats only you most definitely will kill your cat if you use the dog ones…… talk and take your cat to see the vet it is to strong for your cat and is making her sick before you lose her from the collar it is very dangerous…………have her checked out she most likely needs some medicine now to counteract the the reaction from the use from the collar i know someone who lost their cat from using the wrong collar please take her to the vet before you lose her…..i send my thoughts and prayers for her and pray for a speedy recovery and GOD BLESS

  11. YES IT IS DO NOT USE IT ON CATS PLUS YOU NEED TO USE SHAMPOO REGULAR CAT SHAMPOO WITH IT

  12. It’s not “too strong” – it’s poisoning your cat! Most over the counter flea products for dogs contain ingredients that are lethal to cats. You’ve pretty much put poison around her neck, next to her skin. Take the collar off her now, and bathe her particularly where the collar came in contact with her skin. Then get the box and get on the phone with your vet. These products can cause serious damage to the kidneys, depending on the ingredients. The vet can advise you what steps to take next.

  13. They make different products for cats than they do dogs and I don’t know the reason. You may want to checl the labels. You can do that as the store without buying anything.I’ve had several cats that wore flea collars and had no problems, until this one I have now. Within 2 days of having it on she lost all her fur around her neck and her skin was raw. A trip to the vet proved she was allergic to the collar. Now I only use Advantage during the flea season. It’s expensive, but I love the cat and she is worth it If you want to use collars please buy them from a vet. Drug store products like Hartz can made your pets sick

  14. None of the vets I’ve worked for recommend flea collars. Get a topical flea treatment like Frontline or Revolution.
