We have tried many pet store pet products for the cat and many of the house powders, sprays and bombs nothing seems to be helping. Almost every other day she gets a bath with flea shampoo and brushed out for a good hour with a flea comb then the bathroom is sprayed down and sealed off to kill fleas that might have escaped death. Nothing really seems to be getting rid of these suckers…and suggestions on the most efficient way to rid the house and our cat of these buggers.
You need to see the vet for some effective, safe flea treatment first off. Brands like Advantage, Revolution, and Frontline are very good. Bathing her so frequently with harsh flea shampoo can cause skin irritation as well as put her at risk of being poisoned by the pesticide in the shampoo. She’ll also need to be checked for tapeworm since those come from fleas cats ingest while grooming. If you’ve tried and failed with traditional methods of flea control in your house, you might want to have an exterminator come out. As for how the fleas got there, we bring them inside on our shoes and clothing.
Contact your vet for a quality product that is not harmful to your pet. Bathing in flea shampoo every other day may become toxic. after the cat is treated, wash all her bedding. vacuum the entire house and bomb the entire home.
Flease can come in on your pants, a blanket you used in the grass, anything like that, not just on an animal
Go to http://www.drsfostersmith.com/cat-supplies/pr/c/3261 and order flea meds. No RX required except for Revolution.
I recently bought Frontline Plus but it didn’t work – the woman who answered for Drs Foster Smith said she thinks the fleas have become immune and they’re sending me Advantage.
It’s cheaper than going to the vet for flea meds and the meds are the exact same.
Also, vinegar works to rid fleas. Wash bed linens with vinegar and you can even brush your hair with it if they’re bothering you. A few years ago we had a horrd infestation and I put vinegar into a spray bottle and sprayed the carpets and it does help.
good luck!
